Language Communication Courses at SFC

SFC enthusiastically promotes foreign language education. Students can take basic courses, or acquire strong linguistic skills through intensive courses which hold classes in small groups four times a week*. Skill courses are organized under different themes and there are also many opportunities available to study abroad. Overall, the aim of intensive language study at SFC is to master foreign language skills that can be useful in fieldwork activities and classroom presentations, reading literary documents, writing research papers and debating and negotiating in these languages.

Malay-Indonesian is spoken by around 260 million people in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, and East Timor.

Courses

Courses offered for French learners at SFC are Intensive 1-4, and Basic 1+2, as well as Skill-a course focusing on content delivered in French intended for students who want to gain a high level of practical French skill.
There are many opportunities for French learners who are interested in studying abroad including short courses which can be completed during semester breaks, and semester or year-long study abroad programs. A typical pattern of study for someone intending to study abroad in France might look something like

1st year: Spring Semester-Intensive 1, Fall Semester-Intensive 2.
Participate in a one month in country language course over the spring break.
2nd year: Spring Semester-Intensive 3, Fall Semester-Intensive 4.
3rd year: Spring Semester-Skill courses, Fall Semester-Study abroad.

Courses

Basic courses are not offered in Arabic. Over 4 classes per week, the Intensive 1 course aims to help you increase your vocabulary and express yourself in Arabic. Intensive 2 and 3 are also offered, using authentic texts in use by elementary students in countries where Arabic is spoken. After completing Intensive 3, the pathway leads to Skill courses.

Courses

Basic, Intensive and Skill courses are offered for Chinese learners at Keio SFC.
Intensive courses are the ideal option for those who want to deal with China in their careers. In particular Intensive 3 and 4 courses are designed to enable students to access a level of Chinese necessary to carry out research. Skill courses target a certain area of study eg. Reading Comprehension, Conversation or courses targeting Chinese language proficiency tests. At SFC there are also non language courses that are held in Chinese.

Course

Korean learners can choose a basic or intensive path for their study at Keio SFC. After studying intensive 1 + 2, students can then move onto skill courses, or do an intensive course in country. Basic students have the option of continuing to Intensive 2, after completing Basic 1 + 2.

Intensive courses are offered for students of Keio SFC at Seoul University, in both the Spring and Summer breaks.

Course

Students move through courses in three levels, Elementary, Intermediate, and Superior/Advanced. You will be assigned a level before you commence study, based on your previous Japanese experience. It is possible to start from zero and reach a very accomplished level over 4 years. Each level covers a variety of courses. Elementary courses are Basic Japanese and Basic Applied Japanese. Intermediate courses are Intensive Japanese and Superior/Advanced courses cover skills.

All GIGA students are nominated as GIGA certificate candidates on enrollment. Attaining a Japanese level equivalent to N2 of the JLPT is one of the requirements for attaining the GIGA certificate on graduation.

Course

Basic and Intensive courses are available for learners of German at SFC. Intensive learners will be able to complete all the intensive courses and then participate in skill courses, such as reading comprehension, discussion, and language proficiency test preparation courses.
