Shutdown of campus facilities accompanying spread of COVID-19 infections

By in

(Updated on April 28) The government has declared a state of emergency.

Keio University already announced its own emergency measures based on the domestic situation regarding infections by COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) in consideration of the need to prioritize preventing the spread of infection, protecting the health and safety of its students, faculty and staff members, and related parties, as well as to ensure the university can continue its educational, research, and healthcare activities hereafter.

However, in the light of the declaration of a state of emergency now made by the government, the initial shutdown period for university campuses has been revised as follows.

Period: From May 7 (Thurs.) until further notice (original shutdown planned until May 6 [Wed.])

Measures:
1. Entry to and use of the facilities on each campus is in principle prohibited.
2. Each office will in principle be closed (excluding Shinanomachi Campus/Keio
University Hospital).

Although what is required more than anything is for everyone to act calmly based on good commonsense and individual awareness to prevent the spread of infections, Keio University has had no other choice than to reach this decision in order to fulfil its mission and social responsibility.

We kindly ask you all for your understanding and cooperation.

The number of people becoming infected without being able to identify the route of infection is increasing, as is the possibility of infecting others while not showing any symptoms, while infections are further spreading among younger people for whom until recently there had been relatively few cases.
