Fundamental Subjects

These subjects aim to build a foundation vital to all SFC students regardless of faculty. From an early stage after entering SFC, students can make course plans with the aim of acquiring the language skills, methods for thought, and techniques necessary for their Seminar and Graduation Project. Through these basic courses, some of which are required and some compulsory electives, students will continuously build on their foundations through study in fields of their individual interests.

Introductory Subjects

The Introductory Subjects allow students to build the framework of their individual research projects. Students learn about the broad spectrum of work undertaken by SFC faculty members and students thus far in the fields of environment and information studies, and policy management. In doing so, they are afforded an opportunity to develop their own research themes. In addition, these subjects aid students in considering their research project and planning their studies and course of action.

Language Communication

At SFC, where great importance is placed on language communication, Japanese language courses are offered for international and returnee students. Students can study the Japanese language whether their level is Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced, or even Superior. SFC aims to help students improve their Japanese language skills in line with their goals so that they can use their abilities to the fullest as a member of SFC. In addition, students who have the ability to understand lectures conducted in Japanese can take language courses for Malay-Indonesian, Arabic, Korean, Spanish, German, French, Chinese, Russian, and Italian. (Please note that credits earned for Russian and Italian courses cannot be counted toward graduation requirements.) At SFC, foreign language proficiency is cultivated through small-sized Intensive classes, complemented by themed Skill classes. In this way, within just a few years, students are able to acquire the invaluable benefit of a genuine foreign language skill the ability to use the foreign language for reading documents and writing essays, in discussions and negotiations, or for fieldwork and presentations.

Data Science

Students acquire common fundamental techniques that can be widely applied to a number of fields. Studies include data acquisition, editing, and analysis methods; and modeling and simulation; as well as areas in mathematical sciences such as logic, probability, and algebra.

Interdisciplinary Subjects

In addition to the above, Interdisciplinary Subjects are offered to enrich and strengthen the student’s foundation.
